China Renames Locations in Arunachal Pradesh

• China has again standardised names for locations within Arunachal Pradesh to build a “digital and cartographic record” of its claims.
• China calls the state Zangnan (South Tibet) and rejects the McMahon Line (1914) as an illegal colonial imposition.
• India’s position: Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of India. The Tawang region, with its prominent Buddhist monastery, remains the most sensitive area between India and China.

First-Ever Swami Vivekananda Statue Unveiled in the USA

The first life-size statue of Swami Vivekananda in the United States was unveiled in Seattle, a significant milestone in India’s cultural diplomacy. Vivekananda’s 1893 Chicago Parliament of Religions speech is a landmark in India–US cultural history.

Jallianwala Bagh Massacre Remembrance Day

On 13 April 1919, General Reginald Dyer ordered troops to open fire on thousands of unarmed civilians gathered at Jallianwala Bagh, Amritsar during Baisakhi. The massacre killed hundreds and became a turning point galvanising the Indian independence movement toward demanding complete Swaraj. The Rowlatt Act (1919) had triggered protests; leaders Dr. Saifuddin Kitchlew and Dr. Satyapal had been arrested.

Poshan Pakhwada 2026

• Ministry of Women and Child Development launched the 8th edition of Poshan Pakhwada 2026 under Mission Poshan 2.0 (observed 9–23 April).
• The Poshan Pakhwada theme 2026: “Maximising Brain Development in the First Six Years of Life.”
• It highlights that over 85% of brain development occurs by age six.
• Five focus areas: maternal & child nutrition, early stimulation, play-based education, minimising screen time, strengthening Anganwadi Centres.

President Extends Greetings on Harvest Festivals Across India

The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, extended greetings on the occasion of multiple harvest festivals celebrated on April 14–15, 2026. These festivals mark harvest season and the begining of regional new year in many states.

This reflects India’s cultural unity in diversity and gratitude towards farmers.

Prime Minister Visit to Uttar Pradesh

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand on April 14, 2026, where he reviewed and inaugurated key infrastructure projects.

• The Prime Minister reviewed the wildlife corridor at Saharanpur (UP).
• Prime Minister inaugurated the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor.

Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor

The 213 km long six-lane access-controlled Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor has been developed at a cost of over ₹12,000 crore. The corridor traverses through the states of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, and will reduce travel time between Delhi and Dehradun from over six hours at present to around two and a half hours.

Project include a 12 km long wildlife elevated corridor which is one of the longest in Asia.

AP Proposes Amaravati–Vizag–Tirupati Tourism Corridor

The Government of Andhra Pradesh is developing Amaravati as a global creative economy hub with a focus on tourism, cultural integration, and private investment. A tourism corridor connecting Amaravati (cultural/Buddhist heritage), Visakhapatnam (coastal/port tourism), and Tirupati (religious tourism) is being developed. Eros International and Red Bull are in discussions for content creation and event-based promotion.

India’s UPI Records 21.70 Billion Transactions in January 2026

January 2026 data shows a record-breaking 21.70 billion UPI transactions worth ₹28.33 lakh crore. UPI accounts for 81% of all retail digital transactions. India contributes 49% of total global real-time payment transactions. The JAM Trinity (Jan Dhan–Aadhaar–Mobile) is the main reason to this digital revolution. RTGS (2004) and IMPS (2010) payment systems were now behind UPI system.

Startup India Fund of Funds 2.0

The Government of India has launched the Startup India Fund of Funds 2.0 (FoF 2.0) with a corpus of ₹10,000 crore, aiming to strengthen the country’s startup ecosystem by addressing funding challenges. This initiative is an extension of the earlier Fund of Funds for Startups (FFS 1.0), which was introduced in 2016 under the Startup India Action Plan to promote entrepreneurship and innovation.

• Unlike direct funding schemes, the Fund of Funds model works indirectly.
• The government does not invest directly in startups.
• Instead, it provides capital to SEBI-registered Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs), which then invest in startups.
• This approach ensures professional fund management and better investment decisions through experienced venture capital firms.

The scheme will be implemented primarily by the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), which will act as the nodal agency. A structured governance mechanism has been put in place, including a Venture Capital Investment Committee (VCIC) for selecting suitable AIFs and an Empowered Committee (EC) for monitoring performance and ensuring transparency.
