The 9th Rashtriya Poshan Maah 2026 was launched on 9 September 2026 at the Rudraksh International Cooperation and Convention Centre, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. Rashtriya Poshan Maah is observed every September to promote awareness on nutrition, maternal health, child development and healthy caregiving practices.

Western Dedicated Freight Corridor Fully Completed
Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated three key sections of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) to the nation at Vadodara, Gujarat, on 8 September 2026, marking the completion of the corridor. The three newly commissioned sections together cover 326 route km and were developed at a cost of more than ₹20,700 crore.
The Western Dedicated Freight Corridor extends for about 1,506 km between Dadri in Uttar Pradesh and Jawaharlal Nehru Port Terminal (JNPT) in Maharashtra. India has also constructed the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC) from Ludhiana to Sonnagar, covering about 1,337 km. With both corridors commissioned, India’s operational Dedicated Freight Corridor network extends for more than 2,800 km.
Dedicated Freight Corridors provide separate railway tracks primarily for goods trains, reducing dependence on tracks shared with passenger trains. They enable faster freight movement, higher carrying capacity, improved reliability and lower logistics costs.
Note:
- Western Dedicated Freight Corridor funding: Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)
- Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor major funding: World Bank

ICAR Develops AI-Based Real-Time Monitoring System for Mithun
Researchers at the ICAR-National Research Centre on Mithun (ICAR-NRC on Mithun), Nagaland, have developed an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based real-time system to detect and track the behaviour of Mithun in natural farm conditions. The AI framework uses the YOLOv8n model for behaviour detection and DeepSORT technology for tracking individual Mithun across video frames. Mithun, scientifically known as Bos frontalis, is popularly called the “Cattle of the Hills” and has major social, cultural and economic importance for tribal communities of Northeast India.
CosmoCube Mission
Scientists from the United Kingdom have proposed CosmoCube, a small satellite mission that would orbit the Moon and use the radio-quiet lunar far side to search for the extremely faint 21-cm radio signal from neutral hydrogen. The mission concept was detailed in Nature Astronomy on 14 August 2026 and is aimed at studying the poorly observed period between the formation of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) and the first stars. CosmoCube is proposed as a roughly two-year lunar-orbit mission.
India is developing a similar scientific concept called PRATUSH — Probing ReionizATion of the Universe using Signal from Hydrogen. Developed by the Raman Research Institute (RRI) with ISRO involvement, PRATUSH aims to detect the redshifted 21-cm hydrogen signal from the Cosmic Dawn and Epoch of Reionisation, ultimately using observations from lunar orbit.

Financial Fraud Risk Indicator
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has reported that its Financial Fraud Risk Indicator (FRI) helped prevent suspected cyber-fraud transactions worth more than ₹5,000 crore within 15 months of its launch. The FRI was launched on 22 May 2025 under DoT’s Digital Intelligence Platform (DIP).
By August 2026, the cumulative suspected fraud losses prevented through FRI had reached ₹5,043.73 crore, compared with ₹660 crore prevented during its first six months.
FRI classifies mobile numbers into three risk categories — Medium, High and Very High. The classification uses inputs from sources such as citizen reports on Sanchar Saathi, the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP) of the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre, telecom operators, banks and other financial institutions. The intelligence is then shared through the Digital Intelligence Platform with banks, payment service providers, insurers, securities intermediaries and pension-sector entities.
The system enables banks and UPI service providers to flag or stop suspicious transactions before money leaves the customer’s account, shifting fraud control from a reactive approach to a preventive one.
