SUMAN Roadmap 2030 Released to Strengthen Maternal and Newborn Health

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare released the SUMAN (Surakshit Matritva Aashwasan) Roadmap 2030 during the 16th Conference of the Central Council of Health and Family Welfare (CCHFW).

Highlights

• SUMAN stands for Surakshit Matritva Aashwasan.
• SUMAN Roadmap 2030 aims to strengthen maternal and newborn healthcare across India.
• It seeks to reduce the Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) to below 70 per 100,000 live births by 2030, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
• The roadmap targets 130 districts in 13 high-focus States.
• It adopts a life-cycle approach, covering pre-pregnancy, antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care.

SDG – National Indicator Framework (NIF) Progress Report 2026

On the occasion of the 20th Statistics Day (29 June 2026), the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) released the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) – National Indicator Framework (NIF) Progress Report 2026, along with three other SDG publications. The National Indicator Framework (NIF) 2026 comprises 277 national indicators covering all 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and serves as the official framework for monitoring India’s progress towards achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Highlights

• MoSPI released the SDG – National Indicator Framework (NIF) Progress Report 2026 on 29 June 2026 (Statistics Day).
• The National Indicator Framework (NIF) 2026 contains 277 national SDG indicators covering all 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
• The report is prepared in consultation with NITI Aayog, Central Ministries, UN Agencies, and other stakeholders.
• Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) declined from 122 (2015–17) to 87 (2022–24).
• Social protection coverage increased from 22% (2016) to 65.3% (2026).
• Unemployment rate declined from 6.1% (2017–18) to 3.1% (2025).
• Internet subscriptions increased from 302.36 million (2015) to 969.10 million (2025).
• Renewable energy generating capacity increased from 64.04 watts per capita (2014–15) to 193.36 watts per capita (2025–26).
• The area under Ramsar Sites increased from 4.15% (2016) to 8.66% (2026) of the total wetland area.

India’s Growing Self-Reliance in the Defence Sector

India achieved significant milestones in indigenous defence manufacturing during June 2026. The first Made-in-India C-295 transport aircraft completed its maiden flight, while DRDO successfully flight-tested the Long-Range Land-Attack Cruise Missile (LRLACM). In addition, the Indian Navy inducted INS Dunagiri, INS Sanshodhak, and INS Agray, further strengthening the country’s indigenous naval capabilities. These developments mark major progress in India’s journey towards defence self-reliance under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

Highlights

• The first Made-in-India C-295 transport aircraft completed its maiden flight.
• Under the ₹21,935 crore C-295 programme, 40 of the 56 aircraft will be manufactured in India by Tata Advanced Systems Ltd. in partnership with Airbus at Vadodara, Gujarat.
• DRDO successfully tested the indigenous Long-Range Land-Attack Cruise Missile (LRLACM).
• INS Dunagiri, INS Sanshodhak, and INS Agray were inducted into the Indian Navy, strengthening indigenous naval capabilities.

Global Skills Challenge Australia 2026

India delivered an impressive performance at the Global Skills Challenge (GSC) Australia 2026, winning 3 Gold, 1 Silver, and 1 Bronze medal. The competition was held from 23–29 June 2026 and served as a preparatory event for the 48th WorldSkills Competition to be held in Shanghai, China, later this year.

Project BRAHMANK Celebrates 16th Raising Day

Project BRAHMANK of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) celebrated its 16th Raising Day on 29 June 2026 at Ranaghat, Arunachal Pradesh. Established in 2011, the project is responsible for developing and maintaining strategic road infrastructure across the Siang, East Siang, West Siang, Upper Siang, and Shi-Yomi districts of Arunachal Pradesh, along with parts of Dhemaji district in Assam.
