Google to Set Up 1-GW Hyperscale Data Centre in Visakhapatnam
- Union Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development Dr. Pemmasani Chandrasekhar announced that Google’s upcoming 1-gigawatt (GW) hyperscale data centre in Visakhapatnam is expected to generate nearly ₹10,000 crore in revenue for Andhra Pradesh.
- This project is Google’s first AI Hub and first gigawatt-scale data centre in India.
- It will involve an investment of approximately $15 billion (USD) over 2026–2030 and create 5,000–6,000 direct jobs and up to 30,000 total jobs in the state.
TCIL Wins HR Excellence Award at Fortune Leadership Awards 2025
- Telecommunications Consultants India Limited (TCIL), a Miniratna Schedule ‘A’ PSU under the Department of Telecommunications, has been honoured with the HR Excellence Award at the Fortune Leadership Awards 2025.
- TCIL was established in 1978. TCIL has executed over 500 projects across 100+ countries, emerging as a global telecom and IT consultancy leader.
‘Ready, Relevant and Resurgent II’ Book
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh released a book titled “Ready, Relevant and Resurgent II: Shaping a Future Ready Force” authored by Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan.
India and South Korea Inaugural Naval Exercise at Busan
The Indian Navy (IN) and the Republic of Korea Navy (RoKN) began their first-ever bilateral naval exercise at Busan Naval Harbour, South Korea, on October 13, 2025. The Indian Naval Ship (INS) Sahyadri, a Shivalik-class guided missile stealth frigate, is participating in this maiden edition as part of its ongoing operational deployment to the South China Sea and Indo-Pacific region.
Limestone Fully Classified as a Major Mineral by the Ministry of Mines
The Ministry of Mines has officially classified all types of limestone as a major mineral, removing the earlier distinction between major and minor categories based on end use.
Until now, limestone used in kilns for lime manufacturing was treated as a minor mineral, while limestone used for cement, chemicals, steel, fertilizers, and other industries was a major mineral. Read More about Major Minerals in India.
India and Saudi Arabia Deepen Textiles Sector Collaboration
- A high-level Saudi Arabian delegation met with the Secretary Ministry of Textiles, India, in New Delhi to boost cooperation in the textile sector.
- The India–Saudi Strategic Partnership Council, focused on expanding bilateral trade, which reached USD 41.88 billion in FY 2024–25. India is now the second-largest textile supplier to Saudi Arabia with an 11.2% market share.
- Key collaboration areas include Ready-Made Garments (RMG), Man-Made Fibres (MMF), Technical Textiles, Carpets, Handloom, and Handicrafts.
Poshan Abhiyan: Infant and Young Child Feeding Awareness Program
- Under the Poshan Abhiyaan, a special Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) awareness session was organized at Sabbavaram, Anakapalli district, Andhra Pradesh, where pregnant women and their husbands participated.
- As part of Poshan Maah (Nutrition Month) celebrations, a nutrition awareness stall was set up to engage fathers in discussions on the importance of nutrition and family well-being.

WHO Issues Product Alert on Contaminated Oral Liquid Medicines in India
The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a medical product alert after identifying three contaminated oral liquid medicines reported from India on October 8, 2025.
The affected medicines are:
- Coldrif (manufactured by Sresan Pharmaceutical)
- Respifresh TR (manufactured by Rednex Pharmaceuticals)
- ReLife (manufactured by Shape Pharma)
According to WHO, these products were found to contain diethylene glycol, a toxic substance that can be fatal if consumed. The medicines are used for treating symptoms of cold, flu, and cough.
Stree Shakti Scheme
- The Stree Shakti Scheme, launched by the Andhra Pradesh government on August 15, 2025, has shown impressive early success by offering free bus travel to girls, women, and transgender persons across the state.
- According to the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC), women ridership grew from 19.6 lakh on August 31 to 28.3 lakh by October 6, while the daily government subsidy increased from ₹7.76 crore to ₹10.86 crore.
- The scheme’s annual cost is estimated at ₹1,942 crore, raising concerns about long-term financial sustainability.
Cybercrime Cases of Cheating by Personation Surge in Karnataka
- According to recent government data, cybercrimes such as fake job offers, online investment scams, and impersonation frauds have surged across India, with Karnataka emerging as the top contributor, accounting for over 70% of all such cases in 2023.
- These crimes are primarily booked under Section 66D of the Information Technology Act, 2000, which deals with cheating by personation using computer resources, punishable by up to three years in jail and a fine of ₹1 lakh.
- India recorded a sharp rise in total cybercrime cases — from 53,000 in 2021 to 86,400 in 2023. In Karnataka, the share of Section 66D cases rose from 8.5% in 2019 to 83% in 2023, indicating the growing menace of online impersonation.
IMF Forecasts India’s GDP Growth at 6.6% for 2025
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has revised India’s GDP growth projection upward to 6.6% for 2025, a 20 basis point increase from its previous estimate. However, the IMF has reduced its 2026 forecast to 6.2%, reflecting an anticipated slowdown after strong early-year momentum.
Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) Attains Mini Ratna Status
- The Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), headquartered in Visakhapatnam, has been granted Mini Ratna status, marking a major milestone in its revival journey and contribution to India’s maritime and defence industries.
- Founded in 1941, HSL is one of India’s oldest shipyards, supporting both naval and commercial shipbuilding.
- After years of financial distress, particularly between the 1980s and 2010, the shipyard began a turnaround post-2015 through focused reforms in financial management, productivity, and technological modernization.
- HSL has reported consistent net profits for nine out of the last ten financial years. This consistent profitability and operational excellence paved the way for its elevation to Mini Ratna Category-I status.
Andhra Pradesh to Conserve 16 Key Wetlands
Deputy Chief Minister and Forest & Environment Minister of Andhra Pradesh announced that Andhra Pradesh will identify and conserve 16 major wetlands across the State. It is a first-of-its-kind environmental initiative in South India.
The wetlands identified include areas in Sompeta and Taveti mandals, which are set to be developed into a vast eco-tourism corridor.
Andhra Pradesh currently has 23,450 wetlands, and 99.3% of them have completed digital boundary mapping. The remaining physical demarcation is expected to be completed by October 28, 2025.
