22nd ASEAN-India Summit
The 22nd ASEAN-India Summit was held virtually in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 26 October 2025. Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the Summit. Timor Leste becomes the 11th member of ASEAN and participated for the first time as a full member. The ASEAN-India Free Trade Agreement (AITIGA) to unlock full economic potential.
Key Announcements:
- Support for implementing the ASEAN-India Plan of Action (2026–2030).
- 2026 to be observed as the ASEAN-India Year of Maritime Cooperation.
- Extension of Quick Impact Projects (QIPs) to Timor Leste.
- Establishment of a Centre for Southeast Asian Studies at Nalanda University.
- Announcement of the East Asia Summit Maritime Heritage Festival at Lothal, Gujarat.

India to Host Asia Pacific Accident Investigation Group (APAC-AIG) Meeting
India will host the Asia Pacific Accident Investigation Group (APAC-AIG) meeting and workshop for the first time, from 28–31 October 2025. The event will be organized by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) under the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
INS Sutlej Completes Hydrographic Survey at Mauritius
INS Sutlej successfully completed a joint hydrographic survey with the Mauritius Hydrographic Service, covering an area of approximately 35,000 square nautical miles. The mission was conducted under the existing MoU between India and Mauritius. This was the 18th joint hydrographic mission between India and Mauritius.
About INS Sutlej
INS Sutlej (J17) is a Sandhayak-class hydrographic survey ship of the Indian Navy, built by Goa Shipyard Limited and commissioned on 19 February 1993. INS Sutlej has conducted several hydrographic missions in Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Maldives, Myanmar, Mauritius, and India coastal regions.
Dyslexia Awareness Month – October
The #GoRedforDyslexia campaign went global as part of Dyslexia Awareness Month 2025, observed every October. Union Government conducted a campaign #GoRedforDyslexia as part of Dyslexia Awareness Month 2025. Every year Dyslexia Awareness Month 2025 is observed in October. October 08 was observed as the International Dyslexia Awareness Day.
Note: PRASHAST 2.0, a mobile-based screening app developed by NCERT, to help schools identify children with Specific Learning Disabilities (SLDs) such as Dyslexia.
About Dyslexia
Dyslexia is a specific learning disability that primarily affects a person’s ability to read, spell, and write accurately, despite having normal intelligence and vision. It is a neurological and hereditary disease. Children with Dyslexia may struggle with letter recognition, word decoding, and reading fluency.
Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar 2025
Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar 2025, the nation’s highest recognition for outstanding and inspiring contributions by scientists, technologists, and innovators in diverse fields of science, technology, and technology-led innovation, was announced recently.
The Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar is conferred under four categories:
- Vigyan Ratna (VR) – Prof. Jayant Vishnu Narlikar (Physics)
- Vigyan Shri (VS)
- Vigyan Yuva-Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar (VY-SSB)
- Vigyan Team (VT) – Aroma Mission CSIR (Agricultural Science)

1983 Nellie Massacre Report
The Assam Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has decided to table the report of the 1983 Nellie Massacre in the upcoming November session of the State Assembly. The Nellie massacre occurred in February 1983 during the Assam Agitation against illegal foreigners. A commission of inquiry, headed by Justice Tribhuvan Prasad Tiwari, was constituted by the then government to investigate the causes.
ASTraM App
The Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) is introducing a new feature on the ASTraM (Advanced Surveillance and Traffic Management) app to enable college students to report traffic violations near educational institutions.
World Heritage Outlook 4 (2025) report
- The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has placed the Western Ghats, along with Assam’s Manas National Park and West Bengal’s Sundarbans National Park, under the category of “Significant Concern” in its World Heritage Outlook 4 (2025) report.
- The report identifies four major threats to biodiversity and habitat loss in South Asia: climate change, tourism activities, invasive alien species, and road construction.

Cyclone Montha
- The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that a depression over the Bay of Bengal is strengthening into the season’s first cyclonic storm, likely to be named Cyclone Montha.
- The IMD names cyclones in coordination with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) / ESCAP Panel on Tropical Cyclones, which includes 13 member countries such as India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and others. Each country submits a list of names in advance, used sequentially whenever a cyclone forms.
- The name Cyclone Montha was suggested by Thailand and in Thai the word “Montha” means “fragrant flower” or “beautiful flower”.
