6th International Agronomy Congress
The Sixth International Agronomy Congress (IAC–2025), the world’s largest global gathering of agronomists, agricultural scientists, policymakers, and development partners, was held from 24–26 November 2025 at the National Physical Laboratory (NPL), New Delhi.
The theme for 2025 is “Re-envisioning Agronomy for Smart Agro-Food Systems and Environmental Protection”
Government Makes Four Labour Codes Effective from 21 November 2025
The Government of India has made the four Labour Codes —
- Code on Wages (2019)
- Industrial Relations Code (2020)
- Code on Social Security (2020)
- Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code (2020)
These labour codes are effective from 21 November 2025, replacing 29 earlier labour laws. The move aims to simplify labour regulations, improve workers’ welfare, ensure social security, and reduce compliance burden for industries.
Key reforms include:
- Mandatory appointment letters for all workers
- Universal minimum wages
- ESIC coverage extended Pan-India
- Social security for gig and platform workers
- Women allowed to work night shifts with safety provisions
- Free annual health checkups for workers above 40
- Single registration, single licence, and single return to simplify compliance
G20 Leaders’ Summit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg, hosted by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa. This marks PM Modi’s 12th G20 participation.
PM Modi proposed six new global initiatives:
- G20 Global Traditional Knowledge Repository
- G20 Africa Skills Multiplier (1 million certified trainers)
- G20 Global Healthcare Response Team
- G20 Open Satellite Data Partnership
- G20 Critical Minerals Circularity Initiative
- G20 Initiative on Countering Drug Terror Nexus
Australia-Canada-India Technology and Innovation (ACITI) Partnership
India, Australia, and Canada have jointly announced a new trilateral initiative — the Australia-Canada-India Technology and Innovation (ACITI) Partnership.
Key focus areas include:
- Green energy innovation
- Resilient and diversified supply chains, especially in critical minerals
- Development and mass adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI)
- Supporting collective progress towards net-zero
