UNESCO’s Tentative List of World Heritage
Recently Seven Natural Heritage sites from India were added to UNESCO’s tentative list of world heritage. With this inclusion, India now has a total of 69 sites under consideration by UNESCO, comprising 49 cultural, 17 natural, and 3 mixed heritage properties.
- Deccan Traps at Panchgani and Mahabaleshwar, Maharashtra: Home to some of the best-preserved and studied lava flows in the world. The Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary in these Deccan Traps is already a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
- Geological Heritage of St. Mary’s Island Cluster, Karnataka: This island cluster dates back to the Late Cretaceous period, offering a geological snapshot from around 85 million years ago.
- Meghalayan Age Caves, Meghalaya: The stunning cave systems of Meghalaya, particularly the Mawmluh Cave.
- Naga Hill Ophiolite, Nagaland: A rare exposure of ophiolite rocks.
- Erra Matti Dibbalu (Red Sand Hills), Andhra Pradesh: These visually striking red sand formations are located near Visakhapatnam.
- Natural Heritage of Tirumala Hills, Andhra Pradesh: Featuring the Eparchaean Unconformity and the iconic Silathoranam (Natural Arch), this site holds immense geological significance, representing over 1.5 billion years of Earth’s history.
- Varkala Cliffs, Kerala: The scenic cliffs along Kerala’s coastline expose the Warkalli Formation of the Mio-Pliocene age.

The Ministry of Culture is celebrating the Sewa Parv 2025 from 17th September to 2nd October 2025 as a nationwide festival of service, creativity, and cultural pride.
India-AI Impact Summit 2026
The Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, Government of India, unveiled the logo and key flagship initiatives for the India-AI Impact Summit 2026. The India AI-Impact Summit 2026 will be held on February 19-20 2026 in New Delhi.

- Avatar AI – Creating specialized “AI Avatars” up to 70B parameters, optimized for Indian languages and domains such as agriculture, healthcare, and governance.
- IIT Bombay Consortium – Bharat Gen – Developing multilingual and multimodal models ranging from 2B to 1T parameters.
- Fractal Analytics Limited – Building India’s first large reasoning model of up to 70B parameters.
- Tech Mahindra Maker’s Lab
- Zenteiq – Developing BrahmAI, a science-driven multimodal foundation model.
- GenLoop – Creating simple language models (2B parameters) – Yukti (Base), Varta (Instruction), and Kavach (Guard).
- Intellihealth – Proposing a 20B parameter model for EEG signal analysis.
- Shodh AI – Developing a 7B parameter model for material discovery.

The National Zoological Park officials in New Delhi have informed about the sudden passing away of the 29-year-old male African elephant, Shankar.
India & FAO Join Hands to Build World-Class Blue Ports
The Department of Fisheries (DoF), under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying (MoFAHD) has signed a Technical Cooperation Programme (TCP) agreement with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations to strengthen Blue Port infrastructure in India.

Under the “Blue Ports” framework, the DoF is leading the development of Smart and Integrated Fishing Harbours that combine technological innovation with environmental stewardship. Three pilot harbours namely Vanakbara (Diu), Karaikal (Puducherry), and Jakhau (Gujarat) have been approved with a total investment of ₹369.8 crores.

The Kerala High Court has sought the Centre’s response to a plea that sought a stay on the sale of Booker prize winner Arundhati Roy’s recently released book Mother Mary Comes To Me, whose cover photo shows her smoking a bidi, without any statutory health-hazard warning label.
National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST)
The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) has, for the first time, formed a special committee and three sub-committees to study the eight additional duties assigned to it in 2005.
These duties include:
- Protecting ownership rights of STs over minor forest produce, water, and mineral resources.
- Preventing land alienation and ensuring proper rehabilitation of displaced tribals.
- Strengthening the role of tribals in forest conservation and eliminating shifting cultivation.
- Ensuring full implementation of the Panchayat (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act, 1996 (PESA).
- The committee will prepare a report on how these duties can be effectively discharged after two decades of inaction due to lack of staff and funds.

- The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) is a constitutional body in India, established under Article 338A of the Constitution.
- It was created in 2004 by the 89th Constitutional Amendment Act.
National Maritime Heritage Complex
Prime Minister Modi will visit Gujarat to review the progress of the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) at Lothal in Ahmedabad district.
About National Maritime Heritage Complex
- National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) is an under construction tourism complex near Lothal in Bhavnagar district of Gujarat, India.
- This complex is spread over an area of 400 acres.
- It will also recreate Dholavira and Lothal cities in the complex. Lothal is an ancient maritime port city of Indus Valley Civilisation.
- The NMHC is estimated to cost ₹3,500 crore.
- Architecture firm Hafeez Contractor served as the principal management consultant.
Missile and Underwater Drone
Taiwan and U.S. defence firm Anduril will jointly produce a missile and underwater drone, marking Taiwan’s first such deals with a foreign company.
Climate-driven health risks may cost USD 1.5 trillion to global economy by 2050
According to the latest study by the World Economic Forum Climate-related health risks can cost the global economy at least USD 1.5 trillion (over Rs 131 lakh crore) in lost productivity in the next 25 years due to rising illness and labour shortages across key sectors.
