World Mental Health Day is an international day for global mental health education, awareness and advocacy against social stigma. The theme for World Mental Health Day 2025 is “Mental health in humanitarian emergencies”.
Indian Scientists Discover Two Black Holes in the Galaxy OJ287
Indian astronomers have spotted two black holes orbiting each other in a galaxy named OJ287. This is the first-ever direct observation of such a binary system.
The discovery was made possible through an international collaboration involving researchers from the Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences (ARIES), Nainital, and the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai, along with international partners from Finland, the U.S., and Poland.
Three Major Indian Ports Recognised as Green Hydrogen Hubs
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has officially recognised three major Indian ports — Deendayal Port (Gujarat), V.O. Chidambaranar Port (Tamil Nadu), and Paradip Port (Odisha) — as Green Hydrogen Hubs under the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM).
These ports won’t get direct funding from the government, they’ll still get support through other schemes and incentives to attract private investment, promote clean fuel innovation.
3rd International Purple Fest
The 3rd edition of the International Purple Fest – Celebrating Diversity was inaugurated in Goa. This event shows the State’s and India’s commitment to building an inclusive and accessible society for persons with disabilities (PwDs).

NITI Aayog Releases “Roadmap for Job Creation in the AI Economy”
NITI Aayog unveiled the “Roadmap for Job Creation in the AI Economy”, outlining a national strategy to transform India into the AI workforce capital of the world by 2035. The roadmap was launched by Shri B.V.R. Subrahmanyam, CEO of NITI Aayog.
Artificial Intelligence AI may also offer the potential to create up to 4 million new jobs in the next five years through skilling and innovation.
This roadmap was developed by NITI Aayog’s Frontier Tech Hub in collaboration with NASSCOM and BCG.

Sawalkote Hydroelectric Project on Chenab River Gets Environmental Clearance
The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change’s apex committee has granted a fresh environmental clearance to the Sawalkote Hydroelectric Project, a major run-of-the-river power project on the Chenab River in Ramban, Jammu & Kashmir.
The Sawalkote project will have an installed capacity of 1,856 MW and is expected to generate around 8,000 million units of electricity annually. Its estimated cost of this project is ₹31,380 crore.
Cough Syrup Deaths
The owner of Sresan Pharmaceuticals has been arrested by the Madhya Pradesh Special Investigation Team (SIT) after the company’s Coldrif cough syrup was linked to the death of 24 children in Madhya Pradesh.
The syrup, manufactured in Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu, was found to contain over 46% diethylene glycol (DEG) — a toxic chemical that caused kidney failure in the victims.

Tribal Communities Oppose APGENCO’s 3,200 MW Thermal Power Project in Chelam Hills
Strong resistance is mounting against the Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation (APGENCO)’s proposed 3,200 MW supercritical coal-based thermal power project in the Chelam Hill range of Srikakulam district, Andhra Pradesh.
The project, estimated at ₹30,000 crore, has triggered protests from the Savara and Jatapu tribal communities.
Vishwa Samudra Bio-Ethanol Plant in Nellore
- Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated the Vishwa Samudra Bio-Ethanol Plant at Nandha Gokulam, Edagali village, Nellore district.
- The ₹340-crore grain-based bio-refinery, set up by the Chinta Sasidhar Foundation (Vishwa Samudra Group), will produce 200 kilolitres of ethanol per day and supply to oil marketing companies under the Ethanol Blending Programme (EBP).
- The plant will purchase about 15,000 tonnes of broken rice per month from 300 rice mills within a 250-km radius, boosting farmers’ income and creating 550 jobs (direct and indirect).
