New Dragonfly Species Discovered in Kerala

Researchers have discovered a new species of dragonfly in Kerala and named it Lyriothemis keralensis, highlighting the State’s rich biodiversity. The species was recorded from Varapetty near Kothamangalam in Ernakulam district, where it inhabits vegetated pools and irrigation canals within shaded rubber and pineapple plantations.

Chak Hao (Black Rice) from Manipur, one of the five GI-tagged rice varieties being showcased at BIOFACH 2026, is known as the “forbidden rice” and was historically reserved for royalty.
