100 Years of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)

• The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), founded on 27 September 1925 in Nagpur by Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, has completed 100 years of its establishment. 
• The RSS is one of the world’s largest voluntary and socio-cultural organisations, promoting the ideology of Hindutva and aiming to unite Hindus under the concept of a “Hindu Rashtra” (Hindu Nation).
• The organisation functions through daily gatherings known as shakhas, where members, called swayamsevaks, engage in physical and ideological training. 
• The Bhagwa Dhwaj (saffron flag) serves as its symbol, representing Hindu heritage and sacrifice.
• The RSS is the ideological parent of the Sangh Parivar, which includes major organisations like the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
• RSS’s current Sarsanghchalak (Chief) is Mohan Bhagwat.

Cabinet approves Phase III of Biomedical Research Career Programme (BRCP)

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the continuation of the Biomedical Research Career Programme (BRCP) Phase III, a partnership between the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and the Wellcome Trust (UK).

• Duration: 2025–26 to 2030–31 (with servicing till 2037–38)
• Total Cost: ₹1,500 crore
• DBT: ₹1,000 crore
• Wellcome Trust (UK): ₹500 crore

Objective: To nurture world-class biomedical researchers, promote interdisciplinary and translational innovation, and reduce regional disparities in scientific research capacity.

Key Programmes under Phase III:

• Early Career & Intermediate Fellowships — for scientists in basic, clinical, and public health research.
• Collaborative Grants Programme — includes Career Development and Catalytic Collaborative Grants for researchers.
• Research Management Programme — to strengthen core research and mentorship.

Expected Outcomes:

• Training of over 2,000 students and postdoctoral fellows
• 10–15% increase in support for women researchers
• 25–30% collaborative programmes reaching Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 4+
• Expansion of biomedical research in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities

Cabinet Approves Increase in Minimum Support Prices for Rabi Crops (Marketing Season 2026–27)

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved an increase in the Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for all mandated Rabi crops for the 2026–27 marketing season, ensuring remunerative returns to farmers.

MSP Highlights (₹/quintal):

• Wheat — ₹2,585
• Barley — ₹2,150
• Gram — ₹5,875
• Lentil (Masur) — ₹7,000
• Rapeseed & Mustard — ₹6,200
• Safflower — ₹6,540

Cabinet Approves 57 New Kendriya Vidyalayas Across India

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the opening of 57 new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) under the civil sector across India.

Key Points:

• Total outlay: ₹5,862.55 crore over nine years (2026–27 to 2034–35).
• Balvatikas (pre-primary classes) were introduced for the first time in these schools as part of NEP 2020 implementation.
• Coverage: 17 States/UTs, including 14 aspirational districts, 4 LWE (Left Wing Extremism) districts, and 5 hilly/Northeast areas.
• Employment generation: Around 4,617 permanent jobs plus indirect employment through construction.
• Beneficiaries: Approximately 86,640 students.
• Existing KVs: 1,288 functional, including 3 abroad (Moscow, Kathmandu, Tehran).
• PM SHRI Schools: 913 KVs already designated as model NEP 2020 institutions.

National Pulses Mission

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the launch of the National Pulses Mission — a major step towards achieving self-sufficiency in pulses production and enhancing farmers’ income and nutritional security. Union Agriculture Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced that the mission targets to increase India’s pulses production from 242 lakh tonnes (2024–25) to 350 lakh tonnes by 2030–31.

Key Highlights:

• Coverage: 416 districts across India.
• Focus Areas: Rice fallow areas, intercropping, irrigation, market linkages, and seed quality improvement.
• Budget Allocation: ₹11,440 crore for six years.
• Seed Revolution:
• 88 lakh free seed kits for quick adoption in new/priority areas.
• 126 lakh quintals of certified seeds to be distributed—covering 370 lakh ha by 2030-31.
• Five-year rolling seed plans by States; ICAR to supervise breeder seed.
• Seed traceability via SATHI portal.
• Procurement Assurance: 100% procurement of tur, urad, and lentils at MSP.
• Goal: Strengthen food and nutritional security while ensuring farmers receive full returns and long-term income growth.

Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India Celebrates 9th Annual Day

The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) marked its 9th Annual Day with senior dignitaries.

Key Highlights:

• Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India Chairman Ravi Mital.
• India now has a strong institutional setup with 4,000 Insolvency Professionals, 6,000 Registered Valuers, and 100 Insolvency Professional Entities.
• The annual publication “Breaking New Ground: IBC’s Role in Building a Resilient Economy” was also released.

NIELIT Digital University & New Centres Inauguration

Union Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister for Railways, Electronics & IT, and Information & Broadcasting, will inaugurate the NIELIT Digital University (NDU) — a major digital education platform aimed at democratizing access to quality digital learning.

Key Highlights:

• Objective: To equip youth with future-ready skills in AI, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Semiconductors, and allied fields.
• Learning Model: Flexible digital education through virtual labs and industry-focused programs.
• Industry Collaboration: Leading tech firms to sign MoUs with academia to bridge the industry–education skill gap.

NIELIT Network: 56 Centres, 750+ accredited institutes, and 9,000+ facilitation centers nationwide.

Status: NIELIT has been granted “Deemed to be University” status.

57th RBI Monetary Policy Committee Report

The Reserve Bank of India, in its 57th Monetary Policy Committee meeting (Oct 2025), kept the repo rate unchanged at 5.50% with a neutral stance, signaling a balanced approach between economic growth and price stability.

Highlights:

• Repo Rate: Unchanged at 5.50%
• GDP Growth Forecast (FY 2025–26): Revised upward to 6.8% (from 6.5%)
• CPI Inflation Forecast (FY 2025–26): Reduced to 2.6% (from 3.1%) — the lowest in eight years
• Current Account Deficit: Narrowed to 0.2% of GDP (from 0.9%)
• Remittances: Reached US$ 35.3 billion, keeping India the world’s largest recipient.

International Day of Non-Violence – 02 October

October 2 is celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti and globally as the International Day of Non-Violence, as declared by the United Nation.

The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution in June 2007 affirming non-violence as a universal principle and promoting a global culture of peace and tolerance.

Pandit Mishra, a legendary classical singer from the Banaras Gharana, was known for his Hindustani classical, Thumri, Dadra, Chaiti, and Kajri music.

National Dhanwantari Ayurveda Awards 2025

The Ministry of AYUSH has conferred the National Dhanwantari Ayurveda Awards 2025 to Prof. Banwari Lal Gaur, Vaidya Neelakandhan Mooss E.T., and Vaidya Bhavana Prasher.

These awards recognise outstanding contributions to Ayurveda in academic, traditional, and scientific fields.

• Prof. Banwari Lal Gaur: Honoured for strengthening Ayurveda through Sanskrit and Ayurvedic education; author of 31 books and mentor to 24 PhD scholars.
• Vaidya Neelakandhan Mooss E.T.: He represents the 8th generation of Kerala’s Vaidyaratnam family, known for promoting Kerala’s classical Ayurvedic practices globally.
• Vaidya Bhavana Prasher: Scientist at CSIR–IGIB, recognised for pioneering research in Ayurgenomics, integrating Ayurveda and modern genomic science.

National Wildlife Week 2025

As part of Wildlife Week 2025 celebrations (October 2–8), Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Bhupender Yadav laid the foundation stone of ‘Namo Van’ at Manesar, Haryana.

The event also featured a plantation drive under the campaign ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’, which promotes tree plantation as a tribute to mothers and Mother Earth.

Wildlife Week is celebrated every year from October 2 to 8 to spread awareness about the importance of wildlife conservation and ecological balance.

The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) celebrated NPS Diwas 2025 on 1st October 2025. The theme for this year is “Inclusive Pensions, Innovative Solutions: Strengthening Retirement Security in India.” 

With over 9 crore subscribers and ₹15.5 lakh crore AUM as of August 31, NPS has consistently delivered more than 9% CAGR over 14 years.

India’s Rising E-Waste Crisis and Health Hazards

India generated 2.2 million tonnes of e-waste in 2025, becoming the third-largest e-waste generator in the world after China and the U.S. Despite having 322 registered recycling units with a combined capacity to treat 2.2 million tonnes annually, over 50% of e-waste is still handled informally.

Major recycling units include Seelampur (Delhi), Moradabad (U.P.), and Bhiwandi (Maharashtra), where unregulated recycling emits over 1,000 toxic substances, including lead, mercury, cadmium, and dioxins.

Health Impact Highlights:

• 76–80% of informal workers suffer from chronic respiratory illnesses.
• Children exposed to lead face neurological and developmental disorders.
• Skin and eye diseases are common due to direct contact with acids and metals.
• PM₂.₅ levels in recycling zones exceed 300 µg/m³, 12 times the WHO safety limit.

Electrolysers and Their Role in Green Hydrogen Production

An electrolyser is a scientific device that uses electricity to split water (H₂O) into its two components Hydrogen (H₂) and Oxygen (O₂) through a process called electrolysis. When electricity is passed through water, hydrogen gas is released at the cathode and oxygen gas at the anode.

Use in Green Hydrogen Production

They produce hydrogen fuel using renewable energy sources like solar or wind power. Since the electricity used comes from clean energy, the hydrogen produced is called “Green Hydrogen” meaning zero carbon emissions.

Types of Electrolysers

Alkaline (ALK) Electrolysers:

• Oldest and most widely used technology.
• Low-cost and reliable.
• Drawback: less efficient when electricity supply fluctuates (like solar/wind).

Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) Electrolysers:

• Newer and more efficient technology.
• Can handle variable renewable power supply.
• Produces high-purity hydrogen.
• Costly — uses precious metals like platinum and iridium.

Solid Oxide Electrolysers (SOE):

• Operates at high temperatures using heat energy.
• Still under research and not widely commercialized.

Global Context

• China dominates the global market with 85% of Alkaline electrolyser production capacity.
• Europe, Japan, and India are investing heavily in PEM and advanced electrolysis technologies.
• India has launched several Green Hydrogen Missions to promote domestic electrolyser manufacturing.
