GST Reforms in Andhra Pradesh
The Goods and Services Tax (GST) rate rationalisation has given a strong boost to Andhra Pradesh’s economy by reducing costs across major sectors — fisheries, dairy, automobiles, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, renewable energy, and handicrafts.
Andhra Pradesh, which contributes 41% of India’s fish production, will now benefit from reduced GST (12–18% to 5%) on fish oils, gear, pumps, and chemicals.
The dairy sector, supporting 24 lakh farmers, gains as milk and paneer become tax-free, and ghee, butter, and ice-cream get 5–7% cheaper — boosting rural incomes and consumer demand.
In the automobile sector, GST cuts from 28% to 18% make cars, bikes, and autos 8% cheaper, aiding hubs in Anantapur, Chittoor, Nellore, and Visakhapatnam.
Pharma and MedTech, with 250+ drug units and 100+ device makers, will see healthcare costs drop by 7–13%.
Renewable energy will also benefit as GST on solar and wind equipment drops from 12% to 5%, helping create 7.5 lakh green jobs by 2030.
Traditional sectors too will gain — Araku Coffee, Kondapalli and Etikoppaka toys, Leather Puppetry from Anantpur, Nellore and Guntur, and Durgi (Guntur) and Allagadda (Nandhyal) stone carvings will now have lower GST (12% to 5%), making local products more affordable and globally competitive.
