Mission “Senehjori” for Assam Muga Silk

Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, launched Mission “Senehjori” – Assam Muga Silk USP on 2 June 2026 to transform Assam’s Muga silk sector into a globally competitive luxury textile ecosystem.

Revision of Wholesale Price Index (WPI) Base Year

The Government of India has approved the revision of the base year of the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) from 2011-12 to 2022-23. The revised series will be released by the Office of Economic Adviser, DPIIT, on June 15, 2026.

Key Highlights

New Base Year

• Existing WPI Base Year: 2011-12
• Revised WPI Base Year: 2022-23

New Indices Introduced

Along with the revised WPI, the government will release:

• Output Producer Price Index (OPPI)
• Trial Input Producer Price Index (IPPI)
• Service Producer Price Index (Service PPI)

Major Changes in WPI 2022-23 Series

Increased Coverage

• The number of commodities increased from 697 to 957.

Inclusion of Renewable Energy

The Electricity basket now includes:

• Solar Energy
• Wind Energy
• Nuclear Electricity

Reclassification of Energy Products

• Crude Petroleum and Natural Gas shifted from the Primary Articles to Fuel and Power category.

Improved Weighting Method

• New Series: Based on Gross Value of Output (GVO).
• Old Series: Based on Net Traded Value.

Why is PPI Important?

• Measures price changes from the producer’s perspective.
• Helps track how input costs affect output prices.
• Aligns India with IMF recommendations and global best practices.

The Producer Price Index (PPI) measures the average change in prices received by producers for their output and paid for their inputs.

DRDO & IAF Successfully Flight-Test RudraM-II Missile

The Defence Research and Development Organisation and the Indian Air Force successfully conducted flight-tests of the RudraM-II Air-to-Surface Missile on 2 June 2026.

Key Highlights

• The missile was tested from an airborne platform under extreme release conditions.
• It successfully hit a predefined target with pinpoint accuracy.
• All mission objectives were achieved and verified using tracking instruments deployed at the Integrated Test Range.

• Developer: Research Centre Imarat (DRDO)

Important Fact: RudraM series are indigenous air-to-surface missiles designed to engage a variety of enemy assets with high precision.

Telangana Statehood Day 2026

Telangana Statehood Day is observed annually on June 2 to commemorate the formation of the state of Telangana. In 2026, Telangana celebrated its 12th Statehood Day.

• Telangana became India’s 29th state on 2 June 2014.
• It was carved out of the northwestern region of the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh.
• The state was created under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014.

The President of India has appointed Justice Meenakshi Madan Rai as the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court.

About Patna High Court

• Located in Patna.
• Established on 3 February 1916.
• It is the highest judicial authority in the state of Bihar.

Constitutional Provision

• Appointment of High Court Judges and Chief Justices is governed by Article 217 of the Constitution of India.
• High Court judges are appointed by the President of India after consultation with the Chief Justice of India, the Governor of the concerned state, and other constitutional authorities.
