Mission Drishti – World’s First OptoSAR Satellite

Mission Drishti, developed by GalaxEye, was successfully launched on 4 May 2026 aboard Falcon 9 by SpaceX from Vandenberg Space Force Base. Weighing 190 kg, it is India’s largest privately developed Earth observation satellite.

Mission Drishti is significant because it is the world’s first OptoSAR satellite, integrating Electro-Optical (EO) and Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) sensors into a single operational platform.

This technology enables all-weather, day-and-night imaging, helping overcome the limitations of conventional observation systems and ensuring more reliable data collection across different environmental conditions.

A day earlier, the Union Territory had unfurled the world’s largest underwater national flag, measuring approximately 60 × 40 metres, near the same island.
