Bihar Rajya Jeevika Nidhi Saakh Sahkari Sangh

Prime Minister launched the Bihar Rajya Jeevika Nidhi Saakh Sahkari Sangh Limited on 2nd September.

The objective of establishing the Jeevika Nidhi is to provide easy access to funds at affordable interest rates to community members associated with Jeevika. All registered cluster-level federations of Jeevika will become the members of the Society.

Department of Posts Signs MoU with ESRI India to Strengthen the DIGIPIN

Under this MoU, DoP will use ESRI India’s high-resolution imagery and street basemaps for its DIGIPIN portal. ESRI India will provide technical support to the DoP for seamless integration of their services for DIGIPIN.

DIGIPIN

  • DIGIPIN is a nationwide geo-coded addressing system developed by the Department of Posts in collaboration with IIT Hyderabad.
  • It divides India into approximately 4m x 4m grids and assigns each grid a unique 10-character alphanumeric code based on latitude and longitude coordinates.

A team from Raman Research Institute (RRI), Bengaluru, has developed PRATUSH (Probing ReionizATion of the Universe using Signal from Hydrogen), a first-of-its-kind radio telescope designed to study the Cosmic Dawn – the epoch when the first stars and galaxies formed.

Adi Vaani – India’s First AI-Powered Tribal Language Translation Platform

  • The Ministry of Tribal Affairs launched the Beta Version of Adi Vaani, India’s first AI-powered translation platform for tribal languages, at Samrasta Hall, Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi.
  • The launch was part of Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh (JJGV) celebrations.

About Adi Vaani

  • Objective: Preserve tribal languages, empower communities, and improve access to education, healthcare, governance, and entrepreneurship in native languages.

Brahmaputra Multi-threaded (braided) River

Researchers from the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) have uncovered the physical mechanism that explains why some rivers flow as a single-thread channel while others split into multi-threaded (braided) systems.

Key Findings

  • Single-thread rivers: Maintain balance between bank erosion and bar accretion (deposition on opposite banks).
  • Multi-thread rivers: Erosion rates are higher than deposition, causing channels to widen and split repeatedly, making them fundamentally unstable.
  • Method: Analysed 84 rivers worldwide over 36 years (1985–2021) using Landsat satellite images and a technique called particle image velocimetry.
  • The Brahmaputra was found to be a classic braided river.

  • CEREBO is a novel, hand-held, portable, non-invasive diagnostic tool for detecting Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBIs).
