Rohan Bopanna announced his retirement from Tennis
Two time Grand Slam winner Rohan Bopanna announced his retirement from professional Tennis. Across his journey, Bopanna reached five Grand Slam finals one in men’s doubles and four in mixed doubles.
International Conference on “Libraries Empowering Communities – Global Perspectives”
The Vice-President of India delivered a virtual address at the International Conference on “Libraries Empowering Communities – Global Perspectives” in Thiruvananthapuram. The event marks 80 years of Kerala’s organised library movement, inspired by the P. N. Panicker, known as the Father of India’s Library and Literacy Movement.
Asian Youth Games 2025
The 3rd Asian Youth Games (AYG 2025) were held in Manama, Bahrain, from October 22 to 31, 2025. The event featured over 8,000 young athletes from 45 nations competing in 28 sports and also served as a qualifier for the 2026 Summer Youth Olympics. India finished at 6th place with a total medals of 48 which include 13 Gold, 18 Silver and 17 Bronze medals.
Chief Election Commissioner felicitated with Distinguished Alumni Award by IIT Kanpur
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar was felicitated with the Distinguished Alumni Award (DAA) by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur at a ceremony held at its campus in Kanpur.
Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly Silver Jubilee
The President of India attended the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly in Dehradun on the occasion of the Silver Jubilee (25 years) of the state’s formation. The President praised Uttarakhand MLAs for implementing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in line with Article 44 of the Constitution.

India–Romania Skilled Mobility Partnership
Union Minister of State for Commerce & Industry Jitin Prasada visited Bucharest, Romania, to attend the 19th India–Romania Joint Committee for Economic Cooperation (JCEC) meeting. During this visit, India and Romania discussed strengthening economic and labour mobility cooperation.
Key highlights:
- Purpose: Strengthen skills-based mobility and labour market cooperation.
- Romania’s annual labour need: ~100,000 non-EU workers.
- Pathway created for: 30,000 Indian professionals per year.
- Cooperation areas: recruitment, language/vocational training, standardised employment contracts, employer obligations.
- Mutual recognition of Social Security (Totalization) Agreement.
IPPB–EPFO MoU for Doorstep Digital Life Certificate
India Post Payments Bank (IPPB), under the Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications, signed an MoU with the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) to offer doorstep Digital Life Certificate (DLC) services to pensioners under the Employees’ Pension Scheme .

Digital Life Certificate
A Digital Life Certificate (DLC) is an Aadhaar-based online certificate that allows pensioners to prove their existence without visiting banks or offices. Using the Jeevan Pramaan app, Common Service Centers, banks, or government centres, pensioners can submit their life certificate digitally.
Director General of the Bureau of Indian Standards
Sanjay Garg, a senior IAS officer from the Kerala cadre, has assumed charge as the Director General of the Bureau of Indian Standards, the National Standards Body of India, with effect from 1 November 2025.
Bhupen Hazarika National Awards
Jyotiraditya Scindia confers Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika National Awards celebrating Bhupen Hazarika’s centenary year. Six eminent personalities from the region were felicitated for their contributions to literature, music, film, scholarship, and cultural preservation — Yeshe Dorjee Thongchi (Arunachal Pradesh), Laishram Mema (Manipur), Rajni Basumatary (Assam), L. R. Sailo (Mizoram), Dr. Surjya Kanta Hazarika (Assam), and Prof. David R. Syiemlieh (Meghalaya).
Model-Based District-Level Estimates Using HCES
The National Statistics Office (NSO), under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), has released a report titled “Model-based District-level Estimates based on the Household Consumption Expenditure Survey (HCES) 2022–23 for Uttar Pradesh.”
This pilot study was undertaken to generate reliable district-level estimates of Monthly Per Capita Consumption Expenditure (MPCE) using Small Area Estimation (SAE) techniques because direct survey data at the district level is statistically inadequate.
Key Highlights:
- The estimation uses Fay–Herriot (FH) and Spatial Fay–Herriot (SFH) statistical models.
- Auxiliary data sources included:
- Old age pension beneficiaries
- Ayushman Bharat (PM-JAY) patient data
- LPG connections
- Antyodaya Anna Yojana beneficiaries
This model-based approach helps fill data gaps for districts where survey samples are small.
International Day of Biosphere Reserves
The International Day for Biosphere Reserves is celebrated on November 3rd to raise awareness of these protected areas for biodiversity conservation and sustainable development. The 2025 theme for International Biosphere Reserves Day has not been officially announced. There are 18 Biosphere Reserves in India. Out of 18, 13 were recognised by the UNESCO.

Household Debt vs Asset Growth – RBI Data
Recent Reserve Bank of India (RBI) data shows that Indian households are accumulating debt faster than they are creating financial assets. The trend has been consistent since the pre-pandemic year 2019–20, raising concerns about financial stability and changing saving habits. Key Findings:
- Household financial assets added annually grew 48% from 2019–20 to 2024–25 (₹24.1 lakh crore → ₹35.6 lakh crore).
- Annual financial liabilities grew 102% in the same period (₹7.5 lakh crore → ₹15.7 lakh crore).
- As a percentage of GDP:
- Assets fell from 12% (2019–20) → 10.8% (2024–25)
- Liabilities rose from 3.9% (2019–20) → 4.7% (2024–25)
- Household debt-to-GDP peaked at 6.2% in 2023–24, easing slightly in 2024–25.
Savings behavior shift: While bank deposits remain dominant, mutual funds have become significantly more popular among Indian households.
IIT-Kanpur Conducts Cloud Seeding Trial in Delhi to improve air quality
IIT-Kanpur attempted cloud seeding over Delhi on October 28, 2025, aiming to induce artificial rain to reduce severe air pollution. This was Delhi’s first cloud-seeding attempt since 1972 and the first ever specifically targeted at improving air quality.Cloud seeding agents are known as nucleating agents:
- Silver Iodide (AgI) → Most commonly used
- Potassium Iodide
- Dry Ice (Solid CO₂)
- Sodium Chloride (common salt)
- Calcium Chloride
- India commonly uses Silver Iodide + Salt mixtures.
Operation Chakra-V
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a major accused involved in an international cyber fraud racket targeting Japanese citizens. The arrest was made at Bhubaneswar Airport upon his return to India, under the ongoing Operation Chakra-V, a nationwide crackdown against cybercrime networks.
UNSC Backs Morocco’s Autonomy on Western Sahara
The UN Security Council (UNSC) has passed a resolution supporting Morocco’s autonomy plan for Western Sahara, calling it the “most feasible solution” to the decades-long territorial dispute. The resolution was adopted with 11 votes in favour, 3 abstentions, and Algeria refusing to participate.
Western Sahara:
- A mineral-rich former Spanish colony.
- Mostly controlled by Morocco.
- Claimed by the Polisario Front, backed by Algeria.
India’s bioeconomy sector
India’s bioeconomy sector, encompassing agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and aquaculture, is projected to reach $300 billion by 2030, as per a NITI Aayog report.

Andhra Pradesh Signs ₹20,000 Crore MoU with Hinduja Group
The Government of Andhra Pradesh has signed a major Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Hinduja Group for investments totaling ₹20,000 crore. Key Initiatives under the MoU:
- Expansion of Hinduja National Power Corporation Ltd. (HNPCL) at Visakhapatnam
- Development of large solar and wind power projects.
- Setting up an electric bus and light vehicle manufacturing plant.
REC Sanctions ₹7,500 Crore for Andhra Pradesh’s Largest Private RE Project
The Rural Electrification Corporation Limited (REC) has approved a massive ₹7,500 crore sanction for Brookfield’s 1,040 MW hybrid Renewable Energy project in Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh.Project Highlights:
- Total project cost: ₹9,910 crore
- Capacity:
- 640 MW Wind
- 400 MW Solar
- Developer: Evren — a clean energy platform jointly launched by Brookfield and Axis Energy
Chief Minister Employment Generation Programme (CMEGP)
The Government of Andhra Pradesh is preparing to launch the Chief Minister Employment Generation Programme (CMEGP), a major initiative aimed at promoting entrepreneurship across the MSME sector in both manufacturing and service domains.
Modelled on the Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), this new scheme seeks to expand self-employment opportunities in rural and urban areas. Unlike PMEGP, which permits investments up to ₹50 lakh for manufacturing and ₹20 lakh for services, the CMEGP is expected to enhance these limits to:
- ₹75 lakh for manufacturing units
- ₹25 lakh for service units
